Barn Conversions are one of the most sought after country house genres and with a limited supply of buildings to convert, its important to make the very best of each building. At Frazer Haywood, we have just completed this project that we believe is one of the finest in terms of quality as well as architecturally sympathetic.

The first step was for the owners to find the right architect. The location of the building and principle features cannot be changed so its vital to make the best of these. With this particular building it has an amazing location so the architect (Roger Howells of Bodiam) included many different design features to make the very best of the building i.e. the majority of the rear of the building has floor to ceiling glazing to take advantage of the spectacular views.

Once the designs were approved, we were chosen by the owners to change the building from a single storey barn into a 2 storey house, reinstate a single storey annexe & a loft area too. Our extensive experience in this combined with our passion for projects such as this means the opportunity to work on a conversion like this is a task we relish.

We dismantled and imported an Oak framed barn from France to add to the existing frame to ensure all the extra timbers were in keeping with the existing and this was used to create the extension too. The project took 8 months from start to finish and the owners were so pleased with the end result that The Sunday Times published an article about the project earlier this month (click on the link to read more)
